Ongoing Collage Series:
These paintings are in my continuing series depicting the ongoing evolution of our natural world. Materials and Tecniques : I first created a draped paper "sculpture" with soaked 300lb watercolor paper, over which I poured and brushed highly saturated watercolor, directing the path of it's movement with various tools. I repeated this process with sheets of clear Acetate & Yupo, painting with fluid acrylics. After these layers were dried, flattened and attached, additional painting was done with watercolor, acrylic, and finally watercolor pencils and crayons. Allowing some of each subsequent layer to show through in the finished painting is my representation of depth of meaning and passage of time, as well as constant movement and change in nature and life. The attributes and inherent qualities of the meduims I used are, like natural processes: temporary and durable, layered and nucleal, opaque and transparent. The exciting challenge is to combine all of these elements in a satisfying whole that is greater than the parts and is uniquely expressed. |
